CV Softball Age Bracket Eligibility & Guidelines

6u Tee Ball

Tee Ball is the entry level division for players, ages 4-6 (age as of December 31). The experience is grounded in fun, fitness, and fundamentals while also being a key to growing a child’s love for the game. Tee Ball players use bats and balls (“softie” softballs) designated specifically for use in this division.

The roster size for a Tee Ball team averages 7-10 players.

Activities (practices and/or games) will be scheduled 2x's per week and will alternate days each week (week 1 will be on Tuesday and Friday, week 2 will be Monday and Thursday). Practice will begin on or around April 1. The season will be completed by the last week of the school year. All activities will take place at one of CV Softball’s fields.

Parents are strongly encouraged to become involved in this entry level of Little League. After completing a Little League volunteer application and completing CV Softball’s background check requirements, parents may become involved in practices, and be eligible as coaches, managers, or other volunteer positions within the league. The Little League Tee Ball program provides volunteer coaches with everything they need to create an environment where players will learn the skills of the game, while having fun and staying active. Parents and legal guardians of Tee Ball players are crucial to the extension of the program, and their satisfaction is equally important to its success. The outreach and inclusion of this division sets the foundation for continued participation in CV Softball’s other divisions. The use of a robust 10-week Tee Ball program benefits the players and volunteer coaches, who typically are younger parents with little experience as coaches/managers.

Cost is $80 per player.

8u Instructional Division

The Instructional Division is for players with birthdates between September 2014 and August 2017 in grades 1-3. A player who is league-age 6 for the current season and has played a year in Tee Ball is eligible to participate in the 8u Instructional Division.

The 8u Instructional Division will largely be considered “coach-pitch” with some opportunities for player pitch.  The catcher position will be introduced in this Division. Participants will have the opportunity to play all positions during games throughout the season. Practices will focus on fundamentals of the game such as hitting, fielding, and base running, as well as proper throwing and catching mechanics. Practices will also begin to concentrate on basic situational defense (such as the concepts of force-outs, when to throw to a base vs. run to a base for an out, etc.).

Rosters may be composed of between 9 and 12 players.

Teams will be formed to play games among other CV Softball teams. Activities (practices and/or games) will be scheduled 2x's per week and will alternate days each week (week 1 will be on Monday and Thursday, week 2 will be Tuesday and Friday). Practice will begin on or around April 1. The season will be completed by the last week of the school year. All activities will take place at one of CV Softball’s fields.

Alternatively, if there are not enough teams within CV Softball, teams will play in an instructional, semi-competitive division in the West Shore Minors Fast Pitch League. Games would begin mid-April and generally be scheduled so that there is one home game and one away game each week. Away games will require limited travel in the immediate area (reference participating West Shore Minors organizations below).

Parents are strongly encouraged to become involved in this level. After completing CV Softball’s background check requirements, parents may become involved in practices, and be eligible as coaches, managers, or other volunteer positions within the league.

Cost is $120 per player.

10u Competitive Fastpitch – Minor Division

The 10u Competitive Fastpitch – Minor Division is for players with birthdates between September 2012 and August 2015 in grades 3-5. A player who is league-age 8 for the current season and has played a year in the 8u Instructional Division is eligible to participate in 10u Competitive - Minor division.

The Division will be considered “hybrid-pitch”, meaning a player will have the opportunity to pitch until league requirements are met (currently 4 balls thrown to a batter), and then it will become coach-pitch (currently for the remainder of the at-bat, then will revert to player-pitch). Girls will begin to be played more frequently at positions where they fit best, but the ability to play different positions (including pitcher) as the opportunity arises throughout the season will remain. Practices will continue to focus on fundamentals of the game such as hitting, fielding, and base running (including stealing and sliding), as well as proper throwing and catching mechanics, however, practices will also begin to focus more heavily on advanced situational defense and offense. Emphasis during games is both player improvement as well as winning.

Rosters may be composed of between 11 and 14 players.

Teams will be formed to play competitively in the West Shore Minors Fast Pitch League.  Practices will begin on or around April 1st and games will begin in mid-April.
